THE PAMILCO NEWS...the beat goes on!

Posted by Annie on 12:19 PM

(Meet FLOYD, the most recent addition to the Pamlico News. He was hired last week as the new copy editor and reports from Mrs. Karen Winfrey, office manager of THE PAMLICO NEWS, Floyd is working out beautifully. ***JOKE*** I thought the staff needed a little comic relief! Lord knows that bunch sure does love and need a good laugh when they can get it. :) I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH! -ah)
Today is Thursday, and this will probably be a "two post day." This blog will be a bit different than my other Frieda updates, but I feel will be equally as important in Frieda's eyes.
I'm hoping that all the "locals" and subscribers will have the current Pamlico News in hand by now. I picked up a copy yesterday on my way to Greenville and was able to read it at the hospital.
In the midst of everything is going on, I feel it is important to remind everyone of those carrying the biggest torches "behind the scenes," so to speak. Karen Winfrey, Office Manager and sister-in-law of Frieda Hudson, has worked doggedly to make sure that what Frieda would want actually happens. She is working day and night until she literally has to give up and go to bed to make sure that the paper is published, the billing, collecting, etc. get done as well as duties too numerous for me to list here. Her husband, Sandy, Frieda's brother has been right by her side "taking care of business." Tony Tharpe, Jeff Aydelette, Kathy Enzerink, Terry McCune and many others have assumed other duties to make sure the Pamlico News goes right on as scheduled.
This is no easy feat, and unless you have ever had the opportunity to work at a newspaper, it is difficult to explain just how a newspaper "magically" appears each week. In many ways, a weekly is more time consuming than a daily. There cannot be even one loose cog in the wheel or everything goes out of kilter. Scheduling is vital and deadlines must be kept in order for things to progress as they should and eventually result in a printed paper.
Karen knows first hand what Frieda does each and every week. No one knows what "MONDAY NIGHT" means in putting together a paper, unless you have experienced it. It is gruelling and long. It is frustrating and taxing. It is tiring. But, out of the love of the paper and the love of Frieda, they have put out two beautiful papers that I know Frieda Hudson will be so proud of.
I wanted to say that out of all the visits, time spent at the hospital, posts ABOUT Frieda, etc., the importance to Frieda herself lies in the publication of The Pamlico News and that it continues to happen. That is what will be THE most urgent bit of information that Frieda will want to know about.
So, while you're sending prayers of support and encouragement, send a few over toward the incredible staff of The Pamlico News. They would appreciate knowing that we are all cheering them on as well. I think it would give them an extra boost of energy that might just carry them into the NEXT publishing deadline.
More later today when I get to the hospital.
